Mission Spotlight: Being Community Ready and Innovation Day 2

It is the mission of Arcadia Charter School to prepare our students to transition intellectually, emotionally, and ethically to higher education, future employment, and engaged citizenship.

Last week, I ended the spotlight with:

While the State may not require us to report on how we are preparing our students to be engaged, thoughtful citizens, it is one of the most important aspects of an Arcadia education.

This week, our emphasis on “preparing our students to be engaged, thoughtful citizens” will be very visible during Innovation Day 2, focused on community-based problem solving. Students will complete service projects and consider the problems that these service projects help solve, but they will also learn how local community organizations, like the Community Action Center and The Food Shelf, work to address local challenges on a regular basis. Ask your child about their project!

On Friday, students in Lori’s Spanish classes have also planned a fundraiser for the Food Shelf. They will be selling delicious, homemade foods from 5:30-6:30pm on Friday night before Thanks-Give, and donating the proceeds to help purchase culturally diverse foods for the Food Shelf for the holidays.

Announcements

Thanks-Give is coming up Friday, Dec. 6, at 7pm!

It's a hallowed tradition. It's madcap and zany. It's one of Arcadia's best fundraising tools. It's students and staff working closely together to bring you a great, entertaining evening and raise money at the same time. It's what we call our shameless fundraiser (bring a variety of bills to toss in the hat when it’s passed...). It's...Thanks-Give! Come, students and parents and staff and join us, Friday, December 6th at 7:00pm. It'll be fun!

Pre-Thanks-Give Food, 5:30-6:30pm

Stop by and visit the Spanish classes before Thanks-Give--buy some of their foods and help them raise money for the Food Shelf!

Arcadia Service Day, Saturday, Dec. 7, 9am-noon

We have a number of small projects, like putting up new white boards and blinds, that need completing--and we need your help! If you have experience or expertise in any kind of building or maintenance work, or are okay with following instructions from people who do, please join us next Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9am-noon. If you can come for part of that time, or can bring any tools, please put that in the comment on the SignUp Genius: Click to Sign Up for Arcadia's Service Day!
